Giving Tuesday: The Gift of “Oh Holy Night”

December is the month of giving and we certainly did make that up at the Kaleo Institute. You don’t need to travel far or consume very much media to realize that most of the world is geared around the spirit of giving this time of year. Whether its the bell-ringing Salvation Army officer at the grocery store or the Kay Jeweler ads that run every six minutes during your favorite football game, the not-so-gentle reminders to get out there and give are everywhere.

The gift that these young Berklee students and Boston area musicians bestow upon the hundreds of guests dining at the Boston Museum of Fine Art’s Shapiro Family Courtyard is more valuable than gold. The looks of rapture on the faces of both the onlookers and musicians gives even the remote YouTube viewer an idea of the impact of this event.

What makes something like this so special? Is it the hours of preparation or the quality of the musicians? Of course it is, but it is also the inspiration of the Holy Spirit that rests upon the words of this most sacred of Christmas songs.

If you don’t get a little emotional when soloist Mark Joseph belts out the words “Fall on your knees”, barely reaching over the dramatic musical backdrop of the crescendoing orchestra and choir, you may want to check in with yourself and figure out what’s wrong.

Happy Advent and Merry Christmas from all of us at Kaleo!

Oh holy night!
The stars are brightly shining
It is the night of the dear Savior’s birth!
Long lay the world in sin and error pining
Till he appear’d and the soul felt its worth.
A thrill of hope the weary world rejoices
For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn!

Fall on your knees
Oh hear the angel voices
Oh night divine
Oh night when Christ was born
Oh night divine
Oh night divine
